Mother cave bear (Ursus spelaeus) and her cub searching for grubs. Cave bears lived in Europe and Asia during the Pleistocene and became extinct about 24,000 years ago during the Last Glacial Maximum. Males weighed up to 1,500 pounds, 50 percent more than the largest modern day grizzlies.
